Hair-raising footage shows how ski lift seats swung wildly from side to side with people stuck high above the mountain. Several people had to be rescued from the lift, in the Austrian ski resort of Vorarlberg, when Storm Eleanor arrived. Their legs and skis can be seen dangling from the open seats as a snow storm rages around them. The video really illustrates why lifts have to close in strong winds – would you want to be sitting there?
It comes as several ski resorts in the French and Austrian Alps closed runs and lift systems over avalanche warnings. Video:
