Shocking pictures show patients lying on hospital floor after Theresa May denied crisis

Shocking images showed patients lying on a hospital floor this week. The pictures showed people stretched out on the ground at Pinderfields Hospital, in Wakefield, on Tuesday. They were taken by a concerned member of the public, who wanted to remain anonymous, and then sent to Batley and Spen MP Tracy Brabin. In one of the images a man in hospital gown was lying in a corridor in Accident & Emergency and in the other a man was resting his head on a rolled up coat.

‘This state of affairs at Pinderfields is not just in A&E and not just at Christmas. It’s happening on a regular basis,’ the 57-year-old woman from Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, said. ‘People were sitting around in chairs, shivering. In 2018 people should not be having to sleep on the floor without either a pillow or a blanket. ‘If you were in prison you would be offered a pillow and a blanket – and a bed. ‘I have nothing but admiration for the doctors and nurses. They were working tirelessly but there were not enough of them. They are run ragged.’ Hospital bosses said there were chairs available but patients chose to lie down instead.
