Manuel Neuer won’t be joining Bayern in Qatar

Manuel Neuer will sit out Bayern Munich’s winter training camp in Qatar, Jupp Heynckes has confirmed.
Neuer has been absent since undergoing an operation on his foot in September and his likely return date is not yet known.
The Bundesliga leaders will jet off to the Middle East for some warm weather training between 2 and 8 January but the German goalkeeper will not be involved.
“Manuel is staying here, he is not going to Qatar,” Heynckes told Kicker.
“We are not taking any risks at all, we will increase the workload on him step by step.”
However, the 31-year-old did confirm last week that he’s expecting to fit enough to play for Germany at next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

“I am fully expecting to be in goal at the tournament. The way I see it, nothing is standing between me and the World Cup,” Neuer told Bild am Sonntag.
“If everything goes well and I don’t have any more problems, if I get the all clear from the specialists, then I’ll start to play again. I can’t give an exact date.
“I will certainly be in recovery training by January, but I can’t say what that will mean just yet.
“It would be nice to wave my two companions [crutches] goodbye over Christmas.”
Sven Ulreich has deputised in goal for Bayern in Neuer’s absence and saved a penalty in Saturday’s 1-0 win away at Stuttgart.
